Tour Makassar – Toraja, RAKERNAS IMBI

Dengan pesawat Garuda mendarat di Airport Hasanuddin Makassar. Setelah mendarat daerah sekitar airport dan Makassar di timpa oleh hujan lebat dan angin kencang. Perjalanan dengan taxi ke hotel Santika, Makssar dalam keadaan hujan badai. Untunglah sekarang sudah ada jalan toll menuju Makassar. Kami menginap di hotel Santika Makassar. Setelah menghadiri undangan makan malam yang diadakan oleh Pengda IMBI Makassar, membawa motor kembali ke hotel untuk mengambil peralatan riding yang di bawa dengan motor, antara lain, riding pants, jacket dan riding boots.

Sekedar informasi motor-motor peserta dari Jakarta dan sekitarnya dikirim dengan kapal sebelumnya.

Tour Central & Eastern Europe

Seven couples rode motorcycles in the central and eastern Europe, started from Munich, and continued to Prague, approaching border of Poland and then to Bratislava (Slovakia), Budapest (Hungary), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and accross Austria into Alp Mountain Ranges and back to Munich, Germany. The route can be seen in the attached map

We left Indonesia for Germany on April 19, 2012 with stop over in Doha, Qatar. The next day we spent one day buying some additional gears that might be needed for riding in relatively cold climate. I happened to bring my Gerbing’s heating gears including pant and jacket liners with glove. It worked very well, although in the last days of riding I did not turn them on anymore as the weather it’s getting warmer.

After picking up our bikes in the rental store, consisting of seven BMW R1200RT varied in years from 2008 to relatively brand new bikes with some bikes with GPS installed on them, we started riding in noon from Munich to Prague via Pilsen where the first Pilsener Beer come from this town. It has museum of beer and ongoing factory.

Some of our routes were on auto bahn where there was no speed limitation. It was a tough ride especially when we hit by strong side wind. That afternoon was also our opportunity to familiriaze our self with the bikes. We reached Pilsen around 18.00 hrs and the day was still light. After having dinner in the rest area we continued riding toward Prague. We saw the thick cloud was coming which for sure bringing rain with it. We continue riding in the rain and had to stop in the restaurant waiting the heavy rain to stop. With some drizzles we continue riding to Prague. Around 22.00 hrs we arrived in Prague and went stratight to the hotel. It has been a tough ride today.

The next day we have a time to visit several tourist areas such as Heroes Square which is situated near by our hotel. We rode a tram to down town area visiting heritages building such as the palace, Charles Bridge and souvenir shops. Today we recovered our self from fatigue of riding yesterday. At night, we discussed the next day route. There were some changes in our original route. Instead of going to Poland, we were informed that our bike insurance did not cover any lost or damage if happened in this region. So, we decided that after approaching the Poland border we turn right heading to Bratislava, Slovakia (distance wise we would cover the same distance).

ACEH TOUR TO KM ZERO IN SABANG

A group of seven persons with six motor cycles that mostly of BMW GS Adventure conducted a tour starting from Padang, West Sumatra to Banda Aceh and finished in Medan, North Sumatra.
Tour started on December 16 from Minangkabau Airport, Padang and completed in Medan on Dec 22, 2011.
The group arrived in Padang and all bikes have already stood-by. After changing the clothes with riding gears including riding pants, jacket, boots and helmet, we started to ride to Bukittinggi about 80 kms from Padang. We passed through famous and beautiful Lembah Anai and an old bridge of three track train we arrived at Padang Panjang and stop at Mak Syukur Sate Padang restaurant. We enjoyed the food very much and continued riding to Bukit Tinggi under heavy rain all the way. We arrived in Bukittinggi at dusk and went straight to the Hills Hotel, near Jam Gadang (Big Clock).

We spent one night in Bukit Tinggi. We had an excellent dinner at Padang Restaurant near Jam Gadang. Before taking rest we enjoyed having very good taste durian.

The next morning we continued our ride to Sibolga through Bonjol, Kotanopan, Padang Sidempuan. We have ridden through this route before. We stopped in Bonjol at the Equator Monument and crossed the line from southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere.

From Bonjol, we continued our ride through the Mandailing Natal regency and stop for lunch in Penyabungan, From there we rode up north and in Padang Sidempuan we took the road to the left approaching the coastal area again. Before dusk we arrived at Sibolga and went straight to the Hotel Wisata Indah located near the beach.

We spent one night in Sibolga. The rain was heavy during the night. Having dinner with mainly durian. Most of restaurants were closed due to raining.
The next day we continued to ride in northwesterly direction along the coast line. At the beginning the roads were OK until we reached Barus, a small town in the northern part of North Sumatra Province. From there we went to Manduamas, a village near border with Aceh Province. Some of the portions of the roads were still under construction and were very muddy. It took us 4 – 5 hrs to ride through that portion. At last we got through and stop for lunch in Lipat Kajang, a first small town near border in Aceh. Some bikes were slipped while riding though this muddy road. It was quite challenging !

After passing through a town named Subulussalam, we entered Tapak Tuan. We were welcomed by local police and escorted us to the hotel. The road prior to enter Tapak Tuan was covered partially by land slide. However, we were able to pass through. We arrived at hotel just before dusk. The hotel might have to be called as Inn as it was a small place with limited facilities. In the evening we were invited by local chief police to have dinner. It was a nice dinner, one of the best meals we had in the tour.
The next morning we continued the ride from Tapak Tuan all the way to Banda Aceh. It was a long ride (approximately 600 kms). The road from Tapak Tuan to Meulaboh on the west cost of Sumatra has been repaired due to badly damaged during tsunami in 2004. From Meulaboh to Banda Aceh the road condition is excellent. Probably one of the best roads in Indonesia.

We arrived in Banda Aceh under heavy rain. We went straight to Hermes Hotel, one of the best hotels in Banda Aceh. A group of IMBI Aceh bikers, welcomed us prior to enter region of Aceh Besar, in a resort area on the beach facing to Indian Ocean. Unfortunately, due to continuously raining we only stopped for a few minutes and proceeded riding to Banda Aceh.

We spent couple of days in Banda Aceh. Visited several tourist spots and tsunami memorial area, such as tsunami museum, ship that landed on the roof top of a house and floating power plant that washed ashore for about 3 km.

SUMATRA TOUR (Jakarta-Medan v.v.), rute pantai barat dan lintas timur

Rombongan BBC dan IMBI sebanyak 14 motor besar melaksanakan tour ke Medan pada akhir Oktober sampai Nopember, dalam rangka menghadiri pengukuhan Kepengurusan IMBI Medan. Rute berangkat melewati jalur pantai barat sedangkan kembalinya melewati jalur timur. Lintasan perjalanan dapat dilihat pada peta di bawah ini.

Rombongan terdiri atas 14 motor besar yang tiga diantaranya menggonceng istri sebagai co-rider. Satu mobil kawal polisi, satu mobil backup Land Cruiser dan dua mobil pickup sebagai service car.

Perjalanan dimulai dari Bandar Lampung, kearah barat menuju Biha (resort di pantai barat Lampung menghadap ke Lautan Hindia). Tempat ini menjadi favorit untuk para surfer, karena ombaknya cukup besar memecah ke pantai. Dari sana perjalanan diteruskan menuju Bengkulu. Rute ini jarang diambil oleh para bikers, karena sebelumnya jalan melewati daerah ini kondisinya tidak layak untuk dilewati dengan motor besar.

Dari Bengkulu perjalanan diteruskan menuju Padang sejauh lebih dari 600 km. Disekitar Painan, hujan badai turun dengan lebatnya, sehingga perjalanan menjadi sangat pelan untuk menghindari hal-hal yang tidak diinginkan. Untunglah tidak ada longsor yang menghambat perjalanan. Sekitar jam 21.00 dalam kondisi hujan lebat rombongan memasuki hotel Pangeran di Padang. Setelah check-in dan sedang menikmati minum teh jahe panas, terjadi gempa, yang membuat sebagian orang yang berada di hotel menjadi panik. Kebetulan pada saat itu sedang ada musyawarah salah satu partai. Ratusan orang berlarian keluar. Setelah beberapa saat kemudian barulah rombongan menuju kekamar masing2 untuk beristirahat setelah perjalanan lebih dari 12 jam.

Keesokan harinya setelah cukup beristirahat, perjalanan dilanjutkan menuju Bukittinggi yang berjarak sekitar 80 km dari Padang. Hari itu cuaca cerah dan rombongan dapat menikmati pemandangan selama perjalanan termasuk Lembah Anai. Rombongan berhenti di Padang Panjang untuk menikmati Sate Padang Ma’ Syukur yang terkenal seantero “jagad”

Di Bukittinggi rombongan menginap di Hotel Bumi Minang yang terletak di atas bukit. Cuaca dingin dibarengi dengan hujan-hujan kecil sepanjang malam harinya. Relax dan istirahat dengan cukup mempersiapkan perjalan yang cukup jauh keesokan harinya.

Keesokan pagi nya perjalanan diteruskan menuju Sibolga, dengan melewati Bonjol, Rimbo Panti, Penyabungan dam Padang Sidempuan. Di sini rombongan mengambil jalur ke kiri menuju Sibolga, jalur kanan yang langsung ke Tarutung melewati Muara Sipongi dilaporkan dalam keadaan rusak berat.

Setiba di Sibolga menginap di hotel di pinggir laut. Malamnya menikmati makanan “sea food” dan durian yang harganya cukup miring.

Keesokan harinya dilanjutkan perjalanan menuju Medan dengan melewati Tarutung, Danau Toba, Parapat (tourist resort di tepi Danau Toba), Pematang Siantar, Tebing Tinggi, Perbaungan dan Medan.

Jalan beberapa kilometer diluar Sibolga mulai berkelok-kelok dan melewati terowongan yang disebut Batu Berlubang. Rombongan berhenti sebentar untuk berfoto. Kondisi jalan agak kurang baik banyak lobang-lobang dan relatif sempit sehingga rombongan terpaksa bergerak dengan kecepatan rendah. Setelah beberapa kilo melewati batu berlubang memasuki kabupaten Tapanuli Utara, kondisi jalan sangat baik meskipun masih tetap berliku-liku sampai mendekati Tarutung. Jalan berliku ini disebut belokan seribu. Dalam jarak kurang lebih 40 km terdapat sekitar 1200 belokan. Untuk yang belum biasa dapat memabokkan. Untunglah rombongan selamat semuanya, hanya ada beberapa motor yang rebah berhubung kondisi jalan yang kurang baik dan naik turun.

Sesampai di Parapat makan siang (lagi2 wisata kuliner!) menikmati ikan goreng Danau Toba (seperti ikan bilis). Setelah makan siang perjalanan dilanjutkan menuju Pematang Siantar dan Tebingtinggi. Kondisi jalan cukup baik dan tidak terlalu banyak tikungan sehingga motor dapat dipacu dengan kecepatan tinggi. Sepanjang jalan banyak perkebunan kelapa sawit dan karet yang luas, sampai berkilo-kilo meter panjangnya.

Sesampai di Perbaungan berhenti istirahat dengan minum jus dan makanan ringan dan dijemput oleh rombongan IMBI Medan.

Perjalanan kemudian dilanjutkan menuju Medan. Mendekati Medan dekat Tanjung Morawa kawal dari kepolisian Sumut/Medan mengambil alih sebagai vorijders. Memasuki Medan di sore hari lalu-lintas cukup macet, untunglah ada pengawalan.
Sekitar pukul 16.00 memasuki hotel Polonia dengan selamat dan disambut oleh rekan2 dari IMBI Medan. Total jarak perjalanan sampai ke Medan sekitar 2100 km.

Setelah tiga hari di Medan, dengan acara menghadiri pengukuhan pengurus IMBI Medan, perjalanan kembali ke Jakarta dilanjutkan pada tanggal 31 Oktober 2010 bertepatan hari Minggu. Berangkat dari Medan pagi hari sekitar pukul 08.00. Sampai di Rantau Prapat disore hari dengan berhenti makan siang di Pulau Rakyat kota kecil dipinggir sungai Asahan. Hidangan di restoran tersebut cukup baik dan tempatnya juga cukup representatif. Restoran Status Quo ini direkomendasikan untuk rekan2 yang riding melalui jalur timur dari arah Medan.

Di Rantau Prapat menginap di Hotel Nuansa yang modelnya seperti motel dimana motor2 dapat di parkir di depan kamar masing2. Hotelnya cukup bersih dan juga direkomendasikan untuk teman2 yang berhenti menginap di Rantau Prapat.

Keesokan harinya perjalanan diteruskan ke Pekanbaru dengan melewati Gunungtua, Duri dan Minas. Rencananya rombongan IMBI dan HDCI Pekanbaru akan menjemput kita di Minas. Tapi rupanya rombongan telah sampai di Minas lebih cepat dari yang mereka perkirakan. Akhirnya kami menunggu rekan2 IMBI/HDCI Pekanbaru di dekat Rumbai dan bersama-sama menuju hotel. Jalan di Sumatra Utara dan Riau sampai Pekanbaru cukup baik. Jalur jalan dari Duri ke Minas banyak naik – turun dan di beberapa tempat terdapat belokan2 tajam.

Hari berikutnya perjalanan dilanjutkan menuju Jambi. Setelah keluar Pekanbaru hingga Pelalawan jalan banyak yang rusak. Untuk yang mengendarai BMW R1200GS Adventure, kondisi seperti itu tidak terlalu menyulitkan. Tapi bagi rekan2 yang mengendarai motor tipe lainnya, cukup mendapatkan kesulitan. Setelah Pelalawan dan memasuki provinsi Jambi, jalan baik sekali. Marka-marka jalan terlihat jelas dan masih baru. Rombongan sangat menikmati kondisi jalan tersebut, sehingga motor dapat dipacu dengan kecepatan yang relatif tinggi. Disore hari memasuki Jambi dan langsung menuju hotel.

Perjalanan menuju Palembang dilanjutkan keesokan harinya. Kondisi jalan juga baik. Hanya setelah mendekati Palembang lalu lintas lebih ramai sehingga kecepatan dikurangi. Meskipun demikian kami memasuki Palembang sebelum pukul 13.00. Mendekati Palembang kami disambut oleh rombongan IMBI Palembang dan langsung menuju Restoran Seri Melayu untuk makan siang. Setelah makan siang barulah menuju hotel.

Perjalanan etappe terakhir pada tanggal 4 Nopember, hari Kamis menuju Bandar Lampung melewati rute Beringin. Dari Palembang melewati Prabumulih dan istirahat makan siang di Beringin. Setelah itu perjalanan dilanjutkan melewati Bukit Kemuning dan dari arah Branti memasuki Bandar Lampung dan tiba sekitar pukul 17.00. Setelah beristirahat sejenak, sebagian rombongan kembali ke Jakarta dengan motor2 dinaikkan ke atas trailer maupun pickup. Sebagian lagi ada yang menginap di Bandar Lampung dan baru kembali ke Jakarta keesokan harinya.
Semuanya sampai dengan selamat di rumah masing-masing dan total waktu yang dalam perjalanan dan di Medan adalah 14 hari.
Jarak yang ditempuh pulang pergi Jakarta-Medan lebih dari 4200 km.

Motorcycle Tour to Lampung

Riding my BMW 1200 GS Adventure, I joined BBC and IMBI groups to go to Lampung to attend IMBI’s Mini Gathering at Kalianda Resort.
The route was designed to go through Bogor, Leuwiliang, Pandeglang, Serang and Merak where we crossed Sunda Strait to Lampung.
The road condition is generally good. Along some sectors there were some winding roads. It was very chalenging.
